The house, built in the XIII century, belonged for a long time to the Cappello family. The identification of the Cappellos with the Capulets gave rise to the belief that it was Juliet's house, the heroine of Shakespeare's tragedy (never existed in fact). The present appereance of the building comes from the radical restoration carried out at the beginning of the XX century, and it aims to show the ideal image of a medieval house (of the original one, especially of it's interiors, there was almost nothing left).

The furnishings exposed inside are of the XVI-XVII century, the frescos are based on the history of Romeo and Juliet and the Renaissance ceramics comes from Verona.
In the courtyard, there is a bonze statue of Juliet designed by Nereo Costantini.
